BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY, SUNDAY'S SILLIES

Beautiful Sunday, Sunday's Sillies

"Hi, hi, hi, Beautiful Sunday"
Remember that Daniel Boone song?  In '72 it sold two million copies!  It's a beautiful song.  But, I digress.  Let's talk about the sillies on Sunday.

The grandkids painted rocks.  And everything around them -- some coloring pages, their arms and faces, the table, and the chairs in which they sat.  And even though I'd given them each a child-size Home Depot orange apron, they painted their clothes.

Alayna's dress was a mess.  It was so covered in paint we took a picture and sent it to her parents to see if they wanted it pre-soaked since she wasn't due home any time soon.  Surprisingly, they said, "Don't worry 'bout it."

We also had to tell the parents "Noelle's gums are not bleeding." She'd scraped the red paint off her brush with her teeth!!!!

"You said, said, said, said that you loved me"
Miss Lilly also painted a red heart on her paper plate, and said, "You can hang this up when it dries to show that I love you."

Jayden rode his bike only for the second time and ran into the fence.  The first time his dad and uncles taught him to ride.  I looked at the cut and the dripping blood on his right arm and said, "I think you need to get more proficient at simple riding first" because he'd declared, "I'm gonna go do a twist, and a wheelie!"

"Let's take a car and go for a ride"
We'd drove to Red Robin for lunch.  Daughter-in-law lined the 5 grandkids up along the wall on the booth side, adults on the outside. Noelle, being a 4 y.o., seeing the separating crack of the two cushioned seat, decided to kangaroo hop over it!   Adults came unglued. I laughed my head off.  The kid's got "personality".

(That's another fun song; it's by Lloyd Price.)

"We'll drive on and follow the sun"
Standing on the church sidewalk I saw Jacob opening the suicide doors on my red car and was surprised this little guy had the strength and knowledge to do it all by himself!  I knew what he wanted, I'd have to ask the parents if he could ride with us.

When I walked over to the car, carrying his car seat, he'd already taken the blue booster seat out of the back and was sitting on it -- in the front, behind the wheel, and driving!

Doors wide open, keys in hubby's pocket, thank goodness, and yes, 2 hands were on the wheel.  Though the engine wasn't running, the engine was running, and with every excited giggling swivel of the steering wheel, he was driving somewhere!

"Sunday morning we were up with the lark"
Not knowing how the day would unfold, we were "up with the lark", well, the morning doves, actually, then John ended the day with "It's what kids do.   Their little minds haven't developed yet.  Manners are the last thing on their minds."

Then we retired.

"My, my, my it's been a beautiful day!"

JACOB'S DAY

JACOB'S DAY

It was a big day in the life of 4 y.o. Jacob.  Like most 4 y.o. he played hard.  He'd already run the aisles with cousin David Wayne at church.

With vim and vigor, he took me by the hand pulling, insisting I take him to my car.  Sadly, little thing stepped in a hole and about fell.  But he's a trooper, he recovered quickly.

He rode in the backseat with GrammyPam and Grandpa John in the front, to go eat out at Byrd's Smokehouse.  They serve pulled pork, pulled chicken, pulled beef barbecue sandwiches, ribs, and noodles.  Oh, let's not forget the blackberry cobbler!

On the way there, sister Lilly gets excited when she sees the building and the big sign overhead.

"Oh, I remember this place.  I love this place!"

7 year old Lilly addresses her brother, "Jacob, they have the best mac and cheese.  You will like it!"

At her side in his car seat, this 4 year old made a decisive decision, "I'm staying in the car."

Here at our house Jacob chased the kitten with big sister Lilly.

He played with the metal yellow digger that his dad had just repaired, welded as a matter of fact.

He dumped out all the Hot Wheels cars.

He played with favorite toys on the steps.

Then he went to the garage to help himself to yet another favored toy; he begged for the "big" digger.  Taking his mom to the corner of the garage he showed her where it was tucked away way in the back.

It's a riding toy with a front bucket that came with 2 plastic gray boulders, and a yellow hard hat.

As I was squishing between the tables and totes to get to it, I asked, "Do you want the boulders?"

"No",  and he was firm about it, "I just want to be a junior builder."

And he parked the yellow hat on his little yellow-haired head.

I'm thinking what does this 4 y.o. know about being a junior builder?  And what does it have to do with NOT using the boulders?  Something he's seen on tv or in a book, I'm sure.  Too cute.

Hard play is exhausting.  And it makes one hungry.  I could tell.  His visage and word explained it all.  Jacob took one of my new throw pillows and parked it in the kitchen chair, then he squiggled himself up and in front of it -- LOL, a little blond haired boy with a pillow at his back seated at the kitchen table, and no one else around.  One word, that's all that was needed, just one word.

"Baghetti!"

Now, what's a GrammyPam to do?

YOU KNOW IT!

LILLY AND SHAUN WITH JAYDEN AND ALAYNA

Driving from my house to my sister's who lives next door, and with her permission, I'm taking some trash to her large dumpster.  Of course, the grandkids want to ride along, and I figure sis will enjoy the exuberant "Hi"s and the excited clustering and the reacquainting with her Augie Doggie.   So, why not?

Sure enough, it happened just that way.  Augie Doggie was standing at the end of the sidewalk barking "Who are you?  Stranger alert!" then took off happy with tail wagging and feet leaping cause they had exited the backseat of the truck and were squealing and running after him.  Chase me time, "Augie, come back here!"

"Let's go!  Get back in your seats and buckle up!"  Remember that old commercial jingle, it comes to mind every time.  "Buckle up, for safety, buckle up. Buckle up, for safety, buckle up, everybody buckle up. Put your mind at ease, tell your driver please, buckle up for safety, everybody buckle up."

Anyway, I digress.  From left to right, it's Alayna, Jayden, and Miss Lilly.  She has her fingers pinched together and acts like a biter; she pokes towards Alayna's cheeks.  Of course, they're having fun because Alayna is laughing and knows what Lilly is doing.  I don't.  I'm watching from the rearview mirror and have to check it out.

"Marp", says Lilly as she quickly pecks towards Alayna.

Alayna giggles.

"Shaun!" Lilly reprimands. "Marp." and her pinched fingers turn towards herself.

Alayna's giggling more.

"That is NOT acceptable behavior", Lilly apes.

Alayna is giggling and giggling.

"Calm and controlled.  Calm and controlled," Lilly's definitely quoting somebody! "Shaun!" and he pecks again.

"Where'd you hear that?" I ask Miss Lilly.

"Bluey.  Shaun's their pet."

Shew.  That's a whole lot better than what I was thinking.  What was I thinking?

"Marp!  Stay calm and controlled, GrammyPam..... Marp!"

"WHERE HAVE ALL THE FLOWERS GONE?"

"Where Have All The Flowers Gone?"

It was the 4th of July, the whole family was here for a cook-out, hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, fruit, and ice cream, the American Dream, right?  During the course of the afternoon, I noticed my flower pots along the top of the fence were empty!

Darling Hubby said,  "I saw the kids come up and pull them out."
"And you didn't say anything?"
"I didn't think you'd care.  You didn't, did you?"
"No.  I don't care.  Actually, I think it's funny."

So, here's a pic of empty pots along the top of the fence.
Then at days' end after eating melon and chewing Doritoes,
the children were asked to gather all the flowers into one pile, and they did.

I sorted and "re-planted" them.
Purple with yellow,
white with blue,
mix and compliment,
leafy stems, not a few!

But!  Where had they been?  "Where had all the flowers gone?"
As the song says, "Young kids picked them everyone!"
The darlings had planted flowers in their own little garden.

My Garden of Flowers

Ah, the colors, the textures, the various heights, the bouquets, the myriad maturities,
the laughs and the giggles - beautiful!
