Mercantile 37 / Phone Rings

This is Mercantile 37's outdoor sideyard courtyard that has a gravel floor and includes an arbor.

Eye catching on the sidewalk is a vintage red Coca-Cola side-door dispenser and on the far corner a black tilting kettle filled with bright colored growing flowers.

It's a converted gas station, originally called Scotty's Inn where travelers could get a meal and homemade pie.  We did.  In the '60's.

Then it became Wheeler's Restaurant with new owners still trying to catch the crossroads traffc.

Now it's Mercantile 37 which my brother calls a destinaton spot.  Run by the Roudebush family.  They sell vintage, antique, homemade, farm-themed items.  Upstairs is a $2000 pool table and artisan wood tables of all sorts.  There's homemade soap, hair accessories, autumn /seasonal linens and gourds, macrama items like vehicle air freshener, and collectible signage.

In the back, Employees Only, wood workers are creating cabinet tops, bookshelves, mantels and more.

To the left of the main building is an architectually black handsome add-on where they sell breakfast and lunch.  Lots of neighborhood people stop in to catch-up on the local personal news and drink coffee.

Why am I outside?

Because my phone rang and everyone heard this Crazy Mexican Lady (the best ringtone that I can hear) loudly proclaim, "Arriba, arriba, pick it up, pick it up" as I SCRAMBLED to find an exit.  I heard them gasp and laugh behind me.

So I sat on an old chipped white painted 3 legged stool, looking at weathered hand pump weed sprayers, and empty wire harvest baskets, while I had a conversation with the caller.  It was warm, breezey wth crisp air when it dawned on me it might make a decent fall photo.

Even with the Mexican Crazy Lady saying, "Hey, Juanita give me a fajita", it was a pleasant short adventure.
