I was out back on the other side of the deck when I heard their giggles. I was retrieving a frisbee they'd left in the grass.
I look up and 3 little faces looked out over the window sill, watching me.
"You better unlock that door!" I said.
"What's the password?" said the older boy, in his best Nana-Nana-Nana sing-song
"Spank YOU!" I threatened.
Altogether as one voice they hollered, "INCORRECT!"
"Whoosh-clank!" The window shut.
They raise it.
"What's the password?"
"Whippin's!"
"INCORRECT!" Down comes the window.
They raise it again.
"What's the password?"
"1, 2, 3, 4, 5!" said I knowing it was a common choice.
"INCORRECT!" Down clanked the window.
Up it goes.
"What's the password?"
"Password?" I asked.
"INCORRECT!" all three chuckle.
"Whonk!" goes down the window.
Up it goes again.
I was stern, "I want in, you need to unlock that back door."
"What's the password?" they giggle, so delighted.
"I love you?" I hoped.
"INCORRECT!" Whoosh-clank! Window closed.
Up it came.
I asked, "What IS the password?"
In unison, like a practiced choir, Jayden, Lilly, and Jacob loudly said ...
"INCORRECT!"
And they giggled and laughed and thought it was the best joke ever to pull on GrammyPam!
"Whoosh-clank" window shut!"
Believe it or not, I was slow.
I had to be told, "The password, GrammyPam, is "INCORRECT!"
"Ha, ha, ha, you didn't get it."
WHOOSH-Clank! Window shut.
